Professors Leonid Mirny and Emmanuelle Fabre will be presenting the Grand Public Lecture of the Institut d’Études Scientifiques on June 3 in Cargèse, France.
THE GENOME: NOW IN 3D!
Our genomes are the carrier of the genetic information necessary for the life of our cells and the entire organism. This information is faithfully transmitted from parent cells to daughter cells in a hereditary manner. Genetic information is carried by chromosomes that are organized in the three-dimensional (3D) space of cell nuclei. This 3D folding is important for the way cells read, write, and repair genetic and epigenetic information.
During our presentation, we will question the physical mechanisms used by cells to fold, compact and repair chromosomes in 3D. We’ll tell you about newly discovered molecular motors that drive chromosome folding. We’ll show you how physics helps us get to the heart of genomes to better understand them.
The lecture will be recorded and made available at https://iesc.universita.corsica/article.php?id_site=46&id_menu=0&id_rub=819&id_cat=0&id_art=4365&lang=fr shortly after. This lecture will be presented in French.
